Accessibility
Josy was designed from the ground up to be accessible to everyone. Accessibility is not an afterthought - it is the foundation of the app.
VoiceOver
Josy is fully compatible with Apple's VoiceOver. All images have meaningful descriptions, and all buttons and controls are properly labelled. VoiceOver users can navigate the entire app and experience all books.
Voice Control
The app works with Apple's Voice Control. All interactive elements can be reached through voice commands.
Dynamic Type
Josy supports Apple's Dynamic Type. Text adapts to the font size selected in system settings, so everyone can read at their ideal size.
High Contrast
All illustrations use clear, dark outlines and flat colours on light backgrounds. The entire user interface is designed for high contrast to maximise readability.
Reduced Motion
Josy respects the iOS "Reduce Motion" setting. When enabled, animations and transitions are minimised.
Colour Independence
Information is never conveyed by colour alone. Difficulty levels use text labels and symbols alongside colour, making them distinguishable without colour perception.
Large Touch Targets
All interactive elements have a minimum size of 88 points - well above Apple's recommended minimum of 44 points. This makes the app easier to use for people with motor impairments.
External Input Devices
Josy supports external keyboards and switch hardware (Switch Control). Input delay is adjustable to prevent accidental repeated inputs.
Read-Aloud Function
Every book page is read aloud, either automatically when turning pages or manually at the press of a button. This allows children who cannot yet read to participate fully.
Feedback
Accessibility is an ongoing process. If you have suggestions for improvement or encounter any barriers, please write to us at info@josy.app.
